烧成镁铬砖的生产工艺与镁砖大体相仿，其主要特点为：砖的气孔率低，耐压强度、荷重软化温度和抗折强度均较高，抗渣性和高温强度均比其他镁铬砖好。产品主要用于冶金行业平炉炉顶、电炉炉顶、精炼炉及各种有色金属冶炼炉，此外还用在水泥回转窑烧成带和玻璃窑的蓄热室等部位。
